A Drámai gyilkosság a közeljövőben játszódik a Japánban található kitalált Midorijima (碧島) szigetén
.
Valamikor a játék közelmúltjában a szigetet a nagyhatalmú Toue Konzern (東江コンツェルン, Tōe Kontserun) privatizálta, és egy Platinum Jail nevű üdülőhellyé alakította át (プラチナ・ジェイル, Purachina Jeiru), a sziget eredeti lakóit pedig arra kényszerítették, hogy a régi lakónegyedben (旧住民区, Kyū-Jūmin-ku) éljenek. A főszereplő, Aoba Seragaki a szigeten él, és a Junk Shop Mediocrity (平凡, Heibon) nevű boltban dolgozik, remélve, hogy egyszerű életet élhet. Miután azonban erőszakkal belerángatják a népszerű kiberjátékba, a Rhyme (ライム, Raimu) virtuális világába és az Allmates (オールメイト, Ōru Meito) használatába, mobil eszközök, amelyek általában úgy tűnnek, mintha a tulajdonos háziállatai lennének, és a Ribstiez (リブスティーズ, Ribusutīzu) eltűnésekről szóló pletykák hallatán, a csoportok közötti területi háborúk, Aoba számára a békés élet minden látszatának vége.

Years after I first played it, DRAMAtical Murder remains one of the most gorgeous visual novels, with striking character and set designs, dynamic art direction, and attention to even small details in the UI. The soundtrack, particularly the OP and ending songs, are incredibly catchy. I fall in love with the characters more every time I replay it, and even though the plot has some weak points, it’s still an intriguing exploration of themes of humanity, technology, and identity. Highly recommended for fans of boys’ love, of course, but I think many visual novel lovers would enjoy it.
